Grammar and spelling suggestions appear as you write, in the panel beside your draft. They are suggestions, never a blocker: nothing is changed until you accept it.
You can also run a pass over a finished draft and apply the corrections in one step. Use it after you are happy with the content, so you are not fixing sentences you later cut.
Suggestions cover grammar, spelling, and plain style issues. They do not judge whether an argument works or whether a source says what you claim, so read the draft yourself before you send it.
If suggestions stop appearing, the check is temporarily unavailable and your text is untouched. Your draft is never held up waiting on it.
